A Tale of Two Cities / İki Şehrin Hikayesi Book Review ( EN & TR)

I do not know how it works for you, but my decision to read a book is usually shaped by a recommendation or a review. I tend to read books that I become aware of through the suggestions of a writer or academic whose opinions I value, an influencer I enjoy following on social media, or someone in my own social circle whose taste I trust. Of course, this is not always the case. From time to time, I also choose books by researching topics I am interested in, or by purchasing the latest work of an author I already follow out of curiosity. When I bought A Tale of Two Cities , however, I had no prior knowledge of it at all. I did not know when or where it was written, who the author was, or even what the book was about. The only thought that pushed me to buy it was this: “Halil, you never read classic novels.” When I saw the book, I found myself thinking, “Which two cities, and what kind of story could this be?” and I purchased it with a small sense of curiosity. Unfortunately, it too...

Yeonnam-dong's Smiley Laundromat / Yeonnam-dong'un Neşeli Çamaşırhanesi Book Review ( EN & TR )

To be honest, I’ve started to feel a bit uncomfortable always beginning with “Hello again after a long break.” I wish I could read and write more frequently. I can’t say that I read a lot, but I definitely read more than I write. For example, I had been reading the Game of Thrones series, which I never intended to turn into a blog post. I’ve taken a break from that lately, but now I’m here with a different book. Over the past two months, I’ve read two books, and I had planned to write blog posts about both. This post is about one of them. Anyway, let’s get to the point. Today, I bring you a South Korean bestseller: Yeonnam-dong's Smiley Laundromat . While reading this book, I realized something: I may have never read a novel written in the recent (late 21st century) period before. As you may already know from my blog, I’m not much of a novel reader, and when I did read novels, I mostly preferred classics. So, reading this book allowed me to experience emotions I hadn’t really fe...

The Big Nine - How the Tech Titans & Their Thinking Machines Could Warp Humanity / Dokuz Dünya Devi - Teknoloji Devleri ve Onların Düşünen Makineleri İnsanlığı Nasıl Tahrip Edebilir? -- Amy Webb, Book Review EN & TR

Hello! After a very long break, I’m back with a New York Times Bestseller book. I bought this book more than two years ago, but I’ve just finished reading it. I’m sure you also have books you bought years ago that you still haven’t read. As I write these lines, I can’t help but glance at the other books that share the same fate... Honestly, when I bought this book, the AI craze wasn’t as much of a hot topic, at least not in Turkey. I believe this awareness became more pronounced with the advent of ChatGPT in our country. Without further ado, I’ll get into the main topic where I’ll quote parts of the book, try to explain what I understood, and share my thoughts. First of all, I find the writing of such a book beneficial for humanity. Discussing the potential impacts of AI on our lives before they directly affect us might prevent some negative scenarios. The author dedicates a significant portion of the book to these scenarios. The book is written about nine tech giants on a global...

Dunk and Egg - A Knights of the Seven Kingdoms - GRR Martin - Book Review

R M Hello! This time, instead of writing about yet another New York Times Best Seller personal development book, I decided to switch things up a bit. To be honest, I was getting a bit tired of them anyway. Before reading this novel, I had read Vedat Milor's interview book published by Kronik Kitap, and prior to that, if I remember correctly, I was reading the book "Thinking, Fast and Slow" by a Nobel Prize-winning economist. Vedat Milor's Q&A formatted book was pleasant and easy to read, but I haven't written a review about it yet. Maybe my opinion will change; I'm not entirely sure. "Thinking, Fast and Slow" is an incredible book, about 500-600 pages long, predominantly written in an academic tone. I managed to read halfway through and discovered some surprising insights and analyses about how the human brain works for the first time. However, as I continued reading, it became increasingly difficult for me to understand, and I felt that it was...

Fatihler, Korsanlar, Tüccarlar ( İspanyol Gümüşünün Destanı ) - Carlo M. Cipolla

Merhaba!

Dunk and Egg - A Knights of the Seven Kingdoms - GRR Martin

Merhaba!

The Boys: Series Review (EN & TR)

Hello again! I roughly remember why I started this blog about two and a half years ago, but if you ask me why my very first post was about Netflix’s Ragnarok , honestly, I have no clue. I guess I must have been impressed by the show at the time and just felt like writing down my thoughts. I’m still watching it, by the way, though I can’t even remember which season we last finished. Netflix has this habit of dropping entire seasons at once—so we binge them in a week and then forget about the rest for the remaining 51 weeks. Anyway, back to the point. Since I’ve already done a series review before, I thought: why not write about The Boys , which I’ve been really enjoying lately? One of the best things about this blog is that it lets me look back at what I wrote months or years ago—what I thought about books, shows, or anything else at the time. It’s great for keeping an archive and rediscovering my past thoughts. Re-reading a series review probably just helps me remember the show...
